Wins for DC Thomson Media at the Newsawards 2019

May 9, 2019

DC Thomson Media won the top Regional Awards at last night’s Newsawards.

Judges from across the media industry, including representatives from Guardian Media Group, JPIMedia and The Independent, selected DC Thomson Media as Regional winners in daily newspaper of the year and newsprinter of the year.

Discovery Print, the contract printing arm of DC Thomson Media, won Regional Newspaper Printer of the Year.  Judges said the stand-out copy on the table made it the winner in a tough category, with ‘high quality clean printing, excellent vibrant colour printing, and superb inking.’

In the category for Regional Daily Newspaper Of The Year, The Press and Journal was selected as the winner for the second year running.  The design and content of the paper was described by judges as exemplary.

Sister title, The Courier, was a close second in the category and highly commended for its well-balanced copy and weekend supplement.

The Newsawards also commended Chalk Talk by the Evening Telegraph in the category of International Printed Innovation of the Year.  Judges recognised the product was ‘a superb way to attract younger readers and encourage long term newspaper readership’.

Richard Neville, Head of Newspapers for DC Thomson Media, said, “This is a fantastic achievement for the Discovery Print team and The Press and Journal.

“It is great to see all the hard work that goes into producing compelling newspapers printed to the highest standards being recognised.”
