Billed as “the paper with the feel-good factor”, The Weekly News is a national general-interest weekly on sale the length and breadth of the UK. With magazine-style content in an easy-to-read tabloid format, the paper targets the weekend leisure reader, with a broad range of material but particularly focusing on dramatic real-life stories with strong human interest. Content is visually lively, with features often picture-led.
The paper is divided into six content sections for ease of navigation, sitting under the headings of That’s Real Life (adventure, personal achievement, royalty, strange-but true tales from around the world, nostalgia, readers’ letters and readers’ queries); Entertainment; Lifestyle (health, home, gardening, recipes, travel and money); Prizes and Puzzles; Short Stories; Sport.
The Weekly News is one of DC Thomson’s most senior titles, having been in continuous publication since 1855. The paper reflects family values in its style and content. However it has evolved over the years from a serious title carrying local and national news, to a more relaxed format, aiming to give readers a lively, informative and entertaining package. Humour is an important element and the title always carries a selection of amusing single-gag cartoon drawings.
